In a previous post Steve gave a great tip on how to get invited to private online tournaments. I took his advice and ended up playing in a $10+$1 game with $100 in bonus money added in! Within a 30-minute window I signed up for the forums, then used their affiliate link to sign up for PokerShootout.com and transferred $100 in from my checking account.
Only nine players showed up (probably due to the holidays) but that’s still a decent purse. I felt like I was on a big roll as I got some incredible hands and started taking down chips left and right. By the time the two tables merged into the final table I had turned my $1500 in chips to $5000 and was rather surprised to see no other player above $1800. I was even *more* shocked when I had a similar margin at the final table.
I tightened up my play a bit but the chips kept rolling my way and before long I was flirting with $20,000. When it was all down to me and ‘proffesor76′ my lead began to slip away, down to a $2000 chip margin at one point, but I outlasted him and he finally started going all-in each hand just in an attempt to get a break. The top three positions paid and I got $55 for #1 and an additional $50 in bonus money! I almost doubled my money in one night.
Now, having said all that, the money is nice but I didn’t have to fight my way through 2000 other players and that made the whole thing much more enjoyable!
